Moab family portraits, senior graduate pictures, maternity, bridals, couples sessions, engagements & proposals – Let’s go on adventure! Enjoy a 1-2 hour photo session with Claire a professional photographer who knows the area well and will take you to the best locations for your photos. Popular places include Arches National Park and Dead Horse Point but we can go anywhere you choose. A photo session is more of an adventure than just stand and pose. We meet and have a fun time together, walk a trail, climb on rocks, play in sand, look at arches while Claire takes a variety of photos from the big family group shots to individuals, couples, kids and fun candids. This is an opportunity to dress up and have photos taken in a scenic location with your family and friends and leave with an album of memories to cherish for a lifetime.
Dead Horse Point in Canyonlands is hard to beat for the views. The horseshoe river bend and canyon landscape is an amazing backdrop for family photo sessions. The best time of day to shoot here is sunrise or early morning if you want a clear view of the river bend like in this family picture. This particular morning we had unexpected snow and it was freezing but so worth it as the dusting of snow made it picture perfect. Don’t worry about weather, I prefer clouds over blue skies as it will add interest to the photos.
Arches National park is a great choice for a family with younger children or large family groups. My favorite trails are Double Arch and Turret Arch offering a variety of backdrops, pathways and arches. Easy access to trails from the parking lot with two bathrooms for changing outfits.
Other locations in the park include Park Avenue, the three gossips, La Sal Mountain overlook to name a few. We can also hike to Delicate Arch or one of the many other trails leading to arches. Best time for a session is the two hours before sunset.
About Claire
I am an adventurer originally from the UK now living in Grand Junction. I have traveled around the world and when people ask me where is your favorite place I say “Moab, Utah”. I love the desert with big open skies and puffy clouds. I have visited Arches National Park over 100+ times. I recall motorcycling around it when the park still had a dirt road and sitting at Delicate Arch by myself before social media caused the area to explode. I feel lucky to live near such an outdoorsy adventurous place and one that is awesome for photography. I started offering photo sessions because I know how difficult it is to take a nice family portrait in the parks. When you’re looking after children, holding bags, pushing a pram, the park is full of people and the sun is beating down it’s just about impossible. Nothing more frustrating than leaving the area without one good photo of yourself and your family. This is where I come in to help you, hiring a photographer is worth every penny in my opinion. I know the park well, I now where to take you based on lighting and weather, I know how to take rock art family photos and where to place you on busy trails. I am good at directing and getting the kids involved and keep everyone having fun. I like meeting new people and hearing their stories, i am always excited for a photo session and to see who I will meet next.
Family reunions are a lot of fun and we can take photos right at your lodging. It is a great idea to have a photographer come along and take big group photos as well as fun candid shots of everyone. There are many lodgings in Moab that will accommodate large groups such as Slick Rock Lodge, or Red Cliffs Lodge to name a few that I have photographed family reunions at. We can also go to a local park or Arches just keep in mind parking is limited in Moab during busy times of the year.
If your wanting something different Fisher Towers is a Wild West adventure. Located on Hwy 128 (the old route into Moab) there is a hike out to scenic views. There are some drop offs and the rock can be loose so good walking shoes needed. It is very hot here during the day with no shade so best time to photo here is sunrise or sunset. At sunset there is a window of the where the towers light up with color making for a spectacular backdrop for family photos.
Arches National Park is an amazing place to take your senior pictures. I can shoot there any time of the year so you could take your senior pictures on family vacation. I like to walk a couple of trails and take the time to get creative with different looks and poses. You can bring 2-3 outfits no limit.
Bridal sessions are for couples wanting pictures in their wedding outfits. We can go to Arches or Dead Horse point or any location of your choice in the Moab area. This image is of a bridal session in Turret Arch. Pictures here are best shot at sunset when the arch lights up with beautiful golden light.
Styling and posing guidance: If you have never had professional photos taken before I know it can be nerve wracking. You will be asking what do I wear, how do I stand, what do I do with my hands?
Posing How many times have you given your phone to a friend to take a photo of you in an awesome location and when you see the photo you don’t like how you look. You are disappointed the moment was missed knowing you will never share that photo with anyone. Let’s be honest who enjoys seeing themselves looking larger or older than they are in real life? Not me! We all have insecurities that we don’t want highlighted in our profile picture and that is why I am behind the camera! I do not like having my photo taken unless it is by someone who knows how to pose me. I know how photos of myself taken at unflattering angles make me feel – not good!
Don’t worry about the posing I got you covered! I am especially there for the ladies no matter what size or shape we can all look good in photos. I am all for natural looking photos ( not stiff forced poses) but be aware those natural looking photos are directed as I like to call it. I love candid photos they can be fun but it is also hard to capture good ones and many are just unflattering. To increase the volume of keepers I offer guidance on how to stand and where to put your hands, let your personality shine and do your own thing as well. After a while you will start to see that it is actually fun and it becomes natural to pose in front of camera.
I have spent many hours studying how to pose people in a more flattering way to make you look your best. It is my goal to give you flattering photos you enjoy to look at and be proud to share on social media.
Styling: What you wear and how you accessorize can really help make the photos look awesome. I will send you a styling guide when you book me giving you all kinds of tips and suggestions on what clothing to wear and what colors look the best.
If you’re having a baby Arches National Park is a very pretty location for maternity pictures with wildflowers in Spring and colors in the fall. Bring 2-3 outfit changes and flowy dresses look great! we can take a walk down a trail or go where you feel comfortable or choose for a background.
So many locations in the Moab area offer red rocks and a romantic vibe for couples portraits. If you are wanting drama then Canyonlands or Dead Horse Point over look are pretty amazing. if you want to travel out to somewhere different I am in ! With hundreds of arches, waterfalls and desert landscapes in the area it’s really hard to choose! But I can give you ideas on what works best for photos at the time of day you want to shoot.
Session cost and what you will receive I charge a flat fee for up to two hours photo session in the Moab area. I do not set a limit for the number of photos taken and you can pick the location. It’s really up to you wether you want a few photos or as many as we can take in the time we have alloted. Figure on average 150 + photos for a 2 hr session. The fee charged covers everything from travel costs, insurance, gas, shooting and editing time, taxes, park entrance fees, my two mirrorless cameras, lenses and my photography experience.
“I don’t need that many photos” A lot more goes into a photo shoot than you might think. When you see the location your in and the sunset lighting up the rocks with color, your kids having fun with smiles on their face you will soon see why it is hard for me to just take a few photos. When you consider the time involved to dress a family, drive up to a location, get a parking permit and all that is involved believe me it is worth it. If you’re traveling with friends who would like some pictures as well splitting the cost and time with them is fine. I can also take senior pictures and family photos in the same session. I am flexible!
Delivery I hand edit all the photos and will deliver every photo I feel is flattering or story telling via an online album within 2-7 days. Printing is not included but you have full rights to use the photos as you wish. Your album will be attached to a Bayphoto print shop with a discount coupon. You do not have to use bay photo but it might save you some money on printing.
Limits? No limit on number of people or outfit changes. Large family groups are fine and dogs are welcome. I don’t set limits or charge extra for this and that I just want us all to have a good time.
Weddings etc If you’re needing longer coverage for a wedding or event or have something else you would like photographed just send me a message and I can create a custom package for you.
Best time to take pictures is the two hours before sunset for the best available light and that awesome golden glow!
